Comments: I'm assisting my friend in locating anyone who may have served with his dad, PFC. Albert Cohen (from Chicago, IL at that time), who was attached to the SV Battery of the 867th FA Battalion, and who participated in action throughout the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns from Jan '45 to Jan '46. He would've been an "older", married-with-one-child PFC (age 32) at that time, a small-statured guy of 5'6" & 128lbs. His discharge papers list his MOS as a "lineman 641" and rifle qualification of marksman. Mr. Cohen died about a decade ago, but we would love to hear from anyone who served with and had the pleasure of knowing him while in the U.S. Army during that time. Thank you.

Comments: I'm was born 1934 at the town Deggendoff/Danube and live there.
My mailadress: Georg Haberl, Hilzstr.23,D-94469 Deggendorf/Germany.
I research all about the fightings and occupation-time in my vicinity at East-Bavaria.The 13th Armored Div. occupied the town Plattling and crossed there the
Isar-River at April 29./30.1945.
The 65th Inf.Div. followed to cross the Isar-River at Plattling with the units 259th, 260th and 261th Inf.Rgmt., maybe also other units of the 65th Div. at May 1./2.1945. Command post was at Plattling 1st May 1945.
I'm searching for any information, impressions and maybe photos, about the vicinity of Plattling, also the little town "Osterhofen"(southeast of Plattling) Every little detail is of great interest for me.
I would be grateful to get answers from veterans of the 65th Div., or maybe from visitors for this web site of others units.
Congratulations to this very well done web site. There is a lot of information about the 65th Div. and the Assoc.

Comments: I am helping my father write his memoirs. His name is Ron Carlson. He dictates what he wants to say and I write it. I am absolutely amazed at what the 65th accomplished, I had no idea up until now. He is currently suffering from Parkinsons disease most likely caused by a head injury when he was thrown about 40 ft. and severly burned by the explosion of hidden nazi ammo in June,1945 just outside of Linz, Austria. All his medical records were burned in a fire in an army facility in Denver, so he gets no help from the veterans administration. If any one remembers the incident or has any suggestions please email me at the above address. Thank you,Jeanann.

I have some war pictures of my dad and a few buddies, also a postcard from some town in I believe to be Austria, on the back he wrote "we fought here for 12 days but
it does'nt look like this now"

Comments: I and three other soldiers arrived at Saarlautern about two days after the main unit arrived. We were greeted by an enemy artillery barrage that lasted till mid-night. After crossing Hitler's impenetratable Siegfried Line, I, Al Sperl, Ted Sullivan and others were assigned to ride shotgun on Gen. Patton's new Pershing Tanks, protecting them from snipers, Panzerfausts, ambush sites, etc. We were known as Patton's Raiders. We spearheaded for the entire 3rd Army, further out on the point than any other unit. Upon arrival in Linz, Austria we served as Honor Guard for General Patton, and again for General Walton H. "Bull Dog" Walker our XX Corp Commander. Gen. Patton told us: "I am proud of you! the one Honor which is mine, and mine alone, is that of having commanded such an incomparable group of Americans, the record of whose fortitude, audacity and valor will endure as long as history lasts." I was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and recently wrote my Memoirs recounting what I could recall. See my web site above. My book is "A Test of Faith and Courage: Patton's Raiders in WWII."
God Bless America, all of Patton's Raiders and all who fought and died for Liberty and Freedom.
