Status: I am a member of the 65th Division Association Comments: Thanks for all the nice comments on my recent article "Europe Revisited 56 Years Later" which appeared in the Spring, 2002 issue. I enjoyed writing it and attempted to be as factual as possible. But, then alas, the Computer Spell-Check kicks in and in (3) instances, the Inn River shows up as the Enns River. [The Inn River runs by Sharding and junctions with the Danube River at Passau.] Also, with reference to my E-mail address in the E-mail Address Directory -- it reads redbear102@yahoo.com -- it should read red_bear102@yahoo.com.
The 65th Division Website is an excellent addition to the Association and I believe the message board will get a lot of use.Referred By: www.65thdiv.com

Cammaroto, father Comments: Dad is the steroetypical Italian kid from Brookyln you see in every WW II movie. Tough. Speaks his mind, calling it as he sees it. Honest. But, heart of gold.
Drafted in January, '43, he started as an MP in the 751st MP Battalion. He did stateside prisor escort and POW camp guard duty, going overseas in May, '44, right after he married Frances, my mom (A very good move -- she's a peach!). He was stationed in Edinburgh, Scotland, for a few months, until he and few others were "galvanized" into the infantry in the early fall of '44...went through Infantry Traning at Tidsworth, and assigned to the 65th's 259th, Co. K...joined the division "on the line" immediately after Saaurlauten, and was with the division until just before it was disbanded. He was moved to the 9th Infantry Division as an MP, having been returned to MP duties in the 65th just before VE day. He worked as an MP in the 9th until he went home in February, '46.
Dad's retired now in Berlin, Maryland...he makes the occasional reunion...his e-mail address is Raybabab@AOL.COM.
He's my hero in all ways. Were I only half the man he is...
Thanks to all you 65th vets and your families and peers for the magnificent job you did then, and from which we all benefit today...

We were in Shelby the same time you were. In fact several of our vehicles and troopers made a trip to Jackson, MS with your 65th Recon. On the highway to Jackson, your CO or one of your officers was standing on the side of the road with a stop watch checking the intervals between vehicles and the speed. We were disturbed with that. We didn't operate that way. Also your vehicles we found out had been wiped down with oil rags to make them shine. Ours were dirty and "scroungy" We had just come in from a 4-5 day field problem in DeSoto National Forest.
The 69th was the first division to meet the Russians in the Torgau area.Referred By: www.65thdiv.com

Many thanks to Bob Patton and Bob Cardinell for their support - both provided a lot of very interesting accounts on how it was then.
I would also appreciate any info (pictures/narratives) by other veterans of the 65th Division who would like to share their memories with me.
