"PFC Robert H. Hopson of the US Army was born October 11, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA. On December 2, 1942 at the age of 21, he enlisted in the military service. Bob served in the US Army for 4 years during WWII as a member of the 259th Infantry 65th division (the division’s nickname was “Battle axe”). He fought in 2 campaigns in Central Europe. Bob was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 2 Bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal, Marksman badge with the rifle bar, Honorable Service Lapel pin WWII and the Good Conduct Medal Victor Medal. On March 21, 1946 he was Honorably discharged from the service at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
After the war, Bob returned home to his wife, Dot, whom he had married before going overseas, and together they raised 5 sons and 1 daughter. He worked for many years as a truck mechanic for Abbotts Dairies in Philadelphia. He loved fishing, growing vegetables in his garden, working on the house, singing and playing the banjo.
He was married to Dot Carlin Hopson and had 6 children, 19 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. He passed away on October 28, 1981."
